5.10 Demonstrate research-based comprehension instructional practices for developing students' ability to read critically.

The first picture shows a student with his Martin Luther King Jr. mini book. The students cut out the book and assembled it. The back of the book contained questions that they had to read through the book to find. When they finished it, they were allowed to color it. It was a good way for them to read through the information and think about it, other than handing them a worksheet to read. It was a more hands on activity to get them engaged in the topic. The second photo shows a student participating in the daily fix it exercise during centers. It includes sentences that contain the weekly sound for spelling and also grammar and punctuation. They are to fix the sentences by circling the incorrect parts of the sentence and then writing it correctly.
