5.3 Demonstrate research-based instructional practices for developing oral/aural language development.

Oral/aural language develpment is the foundation for a student's learning. If the students do not understand what is being said, they will not be able to improve their own langage skills. The above activity was done during Dr. Seuss week. This was chosen to improve their listening and speaking comprehension. I would read the directions step by step, going through one at a time. After I read the first step in the directions, the students would have to repeat after me to tell me what they were supposed to do and then they would do it. They did not know what they were drawing, as it was oral and step by step directions. In the end, it would end up as The Cat in the Hat if they followed directions like they were supposed to. Of course, each drawing was different, but it made them each unique. The students really enjoyed this assignment.
