5.5 Demonstrate research-based instructional practices for developing phonics skills and word recognition.

There are many activities that help the students engage with each other while practicing phonics. If a student needs help spelling a particular word, they can go to the word wall, which is alphabetized, to find the word and learn how to spell it. They can also use the word wall during center time to create sentences that go with the story of the week. Another activity the students love is roll and read. They roll a die and read whichever sentence that corresponds to the number they rolled. In the last photo, the students are practicing sight words. They read the word and stack the cup. If the students stay on task with it instead of just playing and stacking, they can dramatically increase their sight word fluency.
